About Dr. Danda N. Juanday
A Single Connection Sparked the Beginning of Unicos
The story of Unicos began with a single, powerful connection.
In November 2017, during a visit to Mindanao Island in the Philippines, our company representative met Dr. Danda N. Juanday for the first time.
Despite being strangers, we immediately shared a deep understanding and a common goal: “to bring happiness to all working people.” Inspired by this shared vision, we decided to embark on the journey of eel farming together. Dr. Juanday generously offered a stretch of his nature-rich beachfront land to serve as the foundation for our venture.
This land would become what is now the Unicos Kiamba Eel Farm—home to 24 ponds and approximately 150,000 eels. The establishment and growth of our farm, built upon this land blessed with deep, clean groundwater, would not have been possible without Dr. Juanday’s support, trust, and cooperation.
A Man of Peace and a Beacon of Hope
Dr.Danda N. Juanday was far more than just a business partner.
He dedicated his life to peace building, playing a vital role in mediating the decades-long conflict between the Philippine government and Islamic armed groups in the southern region. He risked his life to help bring stability and hope to communities affected by violence and unrest. His work was recognized both nationally and internationally.
In 2014, he was invited to speak at the Mindanao Peace building Seminar heldat the HiroshimaInternational Conference Center. He also maintained close ties with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), contributing to cross-border efforts in peace building and sustainable regional development.
Carrying Forward His Legacy
What Dr. Juanday gave us was more than land, and more than the beginning of a business.
He entrusted us with a powerful set of values: a deep belief in people, a commitment to community-rooted action, and a vision of “creating happiness together. ”Weat Unicos are honored to carry forward this legacy. With gratitude and respect, we continue to pursue sustainable, people-centered aquaculture, hand in hand with the local community.
At the heart of all we do lies the promise we made to him.
Our meeting with Dr.Danda N. Juanday is the true origin of Unicos. We remember his profoundcontributions and noble spirit with deep appreciation. His aspirations live onin every step of our journey.
